5:06pm Spieth looks on in horror as his sliced drive at 13 disappears over the crowd and into thick rough.

5:08pm The American’s ball still has not been found and the rain is starting to blow in.

5:12pm After a long search, Spieth’s ball is located at the bottom of a hillock, buried deep in the undergrowt­h. It is unplayable.

5:18pm Kuchar lands his approach on the green. Spieth can take a drop two club lengths back but it would be just as bad a lie. Or he can go back on the same line towards the practice ground. But there are a lot of trucks in the way.

5:29 After what seems an age, Spieth takes his drop behind the lorries and 23 minutes after his tee shot, finally plays his next – coming up short of the green.

5:33 Kuchar holes for a par and somehow Spieth gets away with a five, dropping just one shot but handing Kuchar the lead.

5:41pm Spieth almost hits a hole in one at 14, but drains his putt while Kuchar pars. Level again at 8 under.

5:53pm Spieth eagles the 15th while Kuchar picks up a shot with a birdie. Spieth leads by one.

6:08pm Spieth takes his lead back to two shots with a birdie at 16.

6:25pm Kuchar birdies the 17th but Spieth then matches him.

6:38pm Kuchar bogies the last as Spieth pars it to finish three clear.
