Millions
of motorists could be in the driving seat for compensation after it was revealed that the European Commission has started a probe into a cartel of major German car manufacturers. The EC is looking into whether BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche colluded over vehicle emissions, engines and brakes dating back to the 1990s leading to potentially overpriced cars. Nearly 800,000 new cars bought in the UK each year are made by the German firms that could face cumulative fines of around ¤50billion.
