I can totally relate to the woman who lacks the confidence to return to work after being a full-time mum for three years. (Dear Coleen, July 24) I was out of the work place for seven years after having children and was terrified of going back. But you’re right, Coleen, the thought of it is definitely worse than the reality.

My colleagues couldn’t have been more helpful and understanding and, trust me, after two weeks back in the job, it felt like I’d never been away. It felt great doing something productive for myself during the day and then going home to my lovely family. I also loved the feeling of working to benefit my family. Going to work was actually so much easier and enjoyable for that reason. Melanie, via email
