FOOTBALL is definitely the Beautiful Game for teams playing on this pitch.

It was snapped at a Norwegian fishing village on Henningsvaer, part of the Lofoten archipelago.

Misha De-Stroyev’s image was one of more than 15,000 stunning entries in this year’s National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year Contest. But Sergio Tapiro Velasco won the grand prize with his sizzling shot of Colima volcano in Mexico. He said of the image: “It was one of the most exciting moments of my life.”

Other highlights were a crocodile snap by Tarun Sinha and a cave scene that was well worth Clane Gessel’s 10-hour journey getting there.
