Motorola Z2 Play smartphone £379.99

The newly released Moto Z2 Play is a mid-tiered Android smartphone built with the idea that you can use modular cases to add functionality.

These “Moto Mods” will do everything from increase battery life to improve the camera performance.

The phone itself has a 5.5in 1080p screen, an all-metal body measuring 6mm thin, and a 12MP rear-facing camera.

The battery life is excellent and will easily survive all day. But the Mods are the highlight, if you don’t mind paying more. For example, a JBL speaker Mod will add musical volume and a kickstand – but set you back an extra £70.

It’s a nice idea to be able to customise your phone down the line, but even if you don’t want to buy extras, the Moto Z2 Play is a great choice for anyone wanting a solid phone.

RESQYOU iOS & Android, Free

A new take on roadside assistance, this app from Allianz Global Assistance gives you an on-demand approach to breakdown cover. The app is free to download and there’s no membership or monthly charges. Instead, you pay a one-off charge through the app if you break down and need a mechanic to come and help you out. It offers three different services: Assistance Only (£79.99) which gives you 30 minutes of help to fix a flat battery or tyre, either at the roadside or at home. Recovery Only (£99.99)

gives you the above along with recovery for up to 10 miles so you can get the car home or to a garage.

Lastly, Wrong Fuel (£249.99) calls out someone to remove fuel, flush and replace with 10 litres of what the car needs.

The app allows you to track the engineer in real time as they arrive to help you out. Extremely useful, as long as you’ve got phone signal of course...
