‘Promotions for sex’ offered to ambulance trust women
NHS managers offered promotions to female ambulance staff in return for sex, an investigation revealed yesterday.
Some women said they were groped while others complained of “highly sexualised gazing” by male staff in front of patients.
There were accusations in the independent report of “sexual predators” who “groomed students” for sex at South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. More than 40% of the 2,000 staff questioned said they had been bullied. There was a “boys’ club” culture embedded in management, said the report by Professor Duncan Lewis of Plymouth University. An NHS Improvement spokesperson said: “We will be making sure the trust urgently takes the necessary action to respond to [his] recommendations.”
