JUST WILD ABOUT BARRIE

Nottingham Forest 1 Millwall 0

BARRIE McKAY marked his Forest debut with a screamer.

But Mark Warburton’s new-look side were fortunate to escape with all three points against newlypromoted Millwall.

Lions hit the woodwork and were twice denied by Forest keeper Jordan Smith before conceding.

Flying winger McKay, a £500,000 summer signing from Rangers, fired in from 25 yards in the 41st minute.

He impressed in a reshaped Forest side featuring fellow debutants Daryl Murphy and Tendayi Darikwa.

Forest took until the 26th minute to threaten when Ben Brereton had a shot deflected into the sidenetting. By then Millwall had threatened to run riot but found keeper Smith a tough nut to crack.

Forest punished the visitors for their profligacy when McKay (right) scored a superb individual goal after cutting in from the flank. But they had a let-off after the re-start when keeper Smith inexplicably threw the ball straight to Steve Morison.

The Lions skipper squared it but Lee Gregory, who scored 18 goals last term, blasted over.

Fred Onyedinma and Morison went close for battling Lions late on but Forest hung on grimly for a morale-boosting victory.
