Viv shows a Dutch of final class

-

ARSENAL striker Vivianne Miedema scored twice as Holland lifted the European Championship.

It was the hosts’ first major tournament victory and sparked euphoric scenes in Enschede.

Denmark led through Nadia Nadim’s early penalty, but Miedema soon levelled.

Lieke Martens fired the Dutch ahead from 20 yards, but Pernille Harder slotted in an equaliser for Denmark.

Holland captain Sherida Spitse then blasted in a free-kick to regain the lead.

But surprise finalists Denmark pushed hard for another equaliser late on, with Sanne Troelsgaard going close with a halfvolley before Miedema sealed Holland’s win.

The Dutch, backed by the majority of a sold-out 28,182 crowd, went crazy after their historic triumph.

It sparked a party atmosphere inside the FC Twente Stadion where virtually every home supporter was wearing the national team colour of orange.

An emotional Miedema appeared to be in tears in the final few seconds of the match, before the Dutch fans celebrated loudly when the final whistle was blown.
