- BY STEPHEN WHITE

A GIRL has been jailed for scarring a schoolmate with acid after discovering she was dating her ex-boyfriend.

Music student Emily Bowen poured drain cleaner into a viola case owned by 18-year-old victim Molly Young.

Molly was severely injured when she pulled the instrument from a shelf and the sulphuric acid poured over her legs in a music room at Knox Academy, in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. Clarinet player Bowen, 18, was jailed for 21 months after admitting the “utterly wicked” act at Edinburgh sheriff court.

Both girls were 17 at the time. Sheriff Michael O’Grady said: “You researched this topic and should have been aware of the horrendous consequences.”

Jim Stephenson, defending, said Bowen had autism and suffered from depression.
