Grenfell probe chief is ‘unfit for role’ over insulation link
THE head of a probe into building regulations after the Grenfell Tower disaster is unfit for the role because she has a conflict of interest, opponents claim.
Dame Judith Hackitt resigned as a director of the Energy Saving Trust the day before she was appointed to oversee a review.
Sue Caro, from the Justice4Grenfell campaign, said: “The trust, when she was a director, endorsed plastic foam insulation, the very substance believed to be responsible for the rapid and deadly spread of the fire at Grenfell. A more unsuitable candidate for this important review would be hard to find.” Dame Judith, 62, was backed by the government as “an independent and authoritative voice in the engineering sector”. She told The Times she had no role in approving products, adding: “I was only ever on the board.”
