Budget chain Wilko is poised to axe thousands of jobs.

The firm has begun a consultation with 3,900 staff under a reshuffle of store teams as part of a cost-cutting drive.

Roles said to be threatened include stock supervisors, till supervisors and some assistant manager posts.

However, Wilko said it was also creating over 1,000 new senior supervisor roles and a “significant” number of customer service jobs.
