1998: Vijay Singh claimed his first Major in the USPGA Championship at the Sahalee Country Club near Seattle.
1999: The IAAF refused to accept a UK Athletics decision to clear Scottish sprinter Dougie Walker of doping allegations.
2006: England began life under Steve McClaren with a 4-0 win over Greece.
2013: Mo Farah won the world 5000m title. It completed a ‘double double’ for the British star, making him both world and Olympic champion at 5000 and 10,000m.
