AMAZON REVS UP JOB MARKET

- Edited by GRAHAM HISCOTT

Cyber superstore Amazon is creating 1,000 jobs at a new distribution centre in Bristol. The more than one million square feet depot is due to open some time next year.

It will take the number of Amazon ‘fulfilment centres’ in the UK to 17. The US company, which also makes big bucks car show The Grand Tour starring Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, said all of the new jobs would be permanent, with staff paid at least £7.65 an hour.

Amazon was recently slammed as its packaging and delivery arm halved its UK corporation tax bill to £7.4million last year on a turnover of nearly £1.5billion.
