JOSELU PROMISES ONE EL OF A SEASON

- BY SIMON BIRD

NEW boy Joselu says the Spanish influence at Newcastle will help him be a hit.

The £5million signing from Stoke reckons he can get goals for Rafa Benitez despite only grabbing four last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruna.

The Spanish striker gave Toon fans a demonstration of his finishing power, scoring a cracking goal during the open training session held in front of fans yesterday.

He is vying with Dwight Gayle to lead the line, but Gayle could tuck in as a No.10 and pair up with him. Joselu said: “Rafa Benitez is a very, very good manager. He was the biggest reason I signed for Newcastle.

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a fantastic place, it’s an amazing stadium.

“I can’t wait to play in a Newcastle shirt.

“I feel like I have a point to prove. I am in the best league in the world.

“I know I played two years ago in the Premier League.

“But I want to be important in this club, in this team and I will try to do my best to score goals and help win games.

“There are a lot of Spanish speakers here, which is a big help for a new player.

“I think I speak a little bit better English than some and I try to understand everything.

“We will try to win all the games. That is the important thing. We lost the first game, although we played well.

“Now we will try to win the first away game this weekend at Huddersfield.”
