HAMMERS CLOSE TO A CARV UP
WIM DEAL MAY LEAD TO EVANS SWITCH
WEST HAM have reopened talks with Sporting Lisbon over a £30million deal for William Carvalho.
When the Portuguese club rejected their £22m bid for the defensive midfielder (above), West Ham looked elsewhere.
But now a compromise is on the cards with Sporting under financial pressure to sell this summer – and Hammers boss Slaven Bilic needing some steel in the engine room after leaking seven goals in two defeats. Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have all previously looked at Carvalho but stopped short of bringing him to England.
That leaves West Ham in pole position and if they can reach £30m with add-ons, Carvalho could be lining up against Newcastle on Saturday.
West Ham’s owners have backed Bilic heavily in the market and are prepared to dig deep again. WEST BROM are trying to sign Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer.
An £18million move could clear the way for Jonny Evans to join Manchester City.
Albion’s board are happy with the deal and boss Tony Pulis will have the final say.
Wimmer (below) is surplus to requirements at Spurs, who are bringing in £42m Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.
