Joe’s jaw drops at Red power
JOE GOMEZ admits he was dazzled by playing with Liverpool’s new-look attack for the first time.
Liverpool’s front-line has been transformed since Gomez’s last start in the final days of Brendan Rodgers’ reign when they had the likes of Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi up top.
Despite being without the injured Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana, Liverpool still had Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge, Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke against Palace on Saturday.
Gomez, making his first Premier League start in 23 months, was particularly impressed with matchwinner Mane and said: “He’s lightning and he’s clinical.
“There’s so much strength in depth up front you see Mo and Dom coming on. It’s great to have their impact and they all got the result for us.”
Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp deployed Gomez at right-back and was pleased with the England Under-21 international’s display.
“Joe? No surprise,” said the Reds boss. “Of course he was a long time injured and it was a difficult time for him, but no doubt about the quality.”
