Brits abroad with no clothes as airport ‘loses’ 2,000 bags

- BY ADAM ASPINALL

THOUSANDS of holidaymakers have had to endure the start of their breaks without clothes and essentials after an airport baggage handling failure.

The breakdown at Gatwick’s North Terminal over the weekend affected several airlines, with up to 2,000 bags delayed.

A fault with a luggage belt meant travellers arrived at their hotels without essentials such as medication. Frus- trated Jonathan Dakin said: “We were all standing at the carousel in Cephalonia waiting for baggage which had never been loaded.”

Charlotte Harrison said: “When you get to Alicante to be told your luggage is still at Gatwick... Is this a joke?”

An airport spokesman said the technical fault had been resolved and apologised to passengers. EasyJet said it had forwarded all missing luggage by yesterday.
