Rory rest a Major plan

RORY MCILROY will play five more events this year and then shut down his season to get ready for his assault on the Majors in 2018.

The Ulsterman said he could skip the rest of the season to deal with a rib injury after the US PGA.

But he will tee up in the Northern Trust in New York today – the first of four events in the FedEx play-offs – and play the Dunhill Cup pro-am with his father in October before taking an off-season.

The world No.4 said: “We’ll be focusing on is getting me in the best possible shape going in to 2018.”
