THE CRYSTAL MAZE
C4, 8pm Richard Ayoade is so perfectly suited to the role of eccentric, deadpan Maze Master that any fears of not filling the leopard-print boots of Richard O’Brien have been firmly put to rest.
Firing off an endless stream of sarcasm and insults, he skips around his new kingdom with aplomb.
Since this show has been revived, we’ve seen a few celebrity specials, but now it’s the turn of the plebs.
As always, teams of five adventure through the studio set via four zones: Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic, taking on Physical, Skill, Mystery and Mental challenges in a bid to win crystals.
Then everybody gets the chance to leap around the Crystal Dome like lunatics at the end, hoping to collect enough gold tokens to win weird and wonderful prizes.
Tonight, the plucky Watson family take on the Maze – that is, once Richard is done contemplating the meaning of life.
