Merry-go-round of greed is an utter disgrace
THE pay gap between boardroom and shopfloor has become a chasm.
Those running our top firms rake in a fortune as workers struggle with below-inflation rises – if any at all.
It’s a situation made all the more galling by the vast piles of cash some companies are sitting on. How has it come to this? The windfalls are suggested by “specialists” who look at what rival bosses earn, which creates a vicious circle. Then those deals are approved by committees packed with City bigwigs and waved through by shareholders.
The Tories backtracked on curbing boardroom excess, doubtless after pressure. Plans to be announced next week will do nothing to tackle Britain’s disgraceful inequality.
