May’s Far East plan
THERESA May will try to pave the way for post-Brexit trade and hold crunch talks on North Korea’s latest missile test after arriving in Japan for a visit.
Mrs May was due to land in the Japanese city of Kyoto this morning alongside International Trade Secretary Liam Fox and business leaders.
She said last night: “Building on existing ties with allies is vital as Britain prepares for a new era outside the European Union.”
Japan already has 1,000 companies employing 140,000 people in the UK.
The PM will also become the first European leader to attend a meeting of Japan’s National Security Council, as well as as travel aboard a Bullet Train, visit a helicopter carrier and meet Emperor Akihito.
