WENGER’S PROMISE TO GUNNERS FANS..

ARSENE WENGER says it would be “stupid” to write off Arsenal’s title chances – and urged the fans to get behind his team.

Wenger accepts some fans are unhappy after a chaotic transfer window but insists they are still a quality side.

The Gunners boss said: “It would be absolutely stupid to say that you give up for the rest

of the championship. A top-level sportsman is a guy who keeps going where others give up.”

Wenger also stressed Arsenal are determined to show the 4-0 hammering by Liverpool before the international break was an “accident” and they can still win trophies.

The Frenchman said: “We have to continue to believe in our strength.

“And our fans as well. To have a successful season we need our fans.

“They can say, ‘OK, we’re not good enough, our squad is not good enough’ – and they can think, OK, we have no chance this year. But that will not work.

“What we learned from Liverpool is that we were not at all at the level that is expected from us.

“We have to show very quickly that was a complete accident.”
