Basic income ‘is backed by half of Brits’
HALF of adults want the Government to roll out a regular cash payment for all citizens regardless of their working status.
A universal basic income would pay everyone a flat, unconditional amount and replace policies such as means-tested benefits.
Polling found 49% of those aged 18 to 75 back the idea with 26% opposed.
When people were asked to consider funding through increased taxation, support dropped to 30% with 40% against.
