HOME FIRST AID:
BROKEN ARM/WRIST
A broken arm or wrist bone can cause swelling or tenderness and bleeding if the bone has damaged tissue and skin.
These symptoms may also occur if there’s a sprain. An X-ray is the only way to confirm a break. The bone can break straight across, diagonally, or in a spiral pattern. In severe cases, the bone may break into many pieces. Do not eat or drink anything if you think it’s a break as you may need a general anaesthetic so doctors can realign the bone. Apply an ice pack to the injured area. Using a sling may help stabilise the arm. If your child has injured their arm or wrist, try to get someone else to drive so you can support and comfort them.
