Better to quit than switch to vaping

-

I am not surprised at all by the results of this research. Vaping risks causing respiratory problems as, whenever I see people vaping, they are usually coughing – not a great sign! People who vape never look healthy.

The amount of smoke these devices emit can’t be good for them. They are anti-social and should be outlawed from all public places. I certainly wouldn’t want my children anywhere near anyone who was vaping. Charlotte Leigh-Thomas, London # Like no one ever expected this news headline to appear at some point! Of course anything you breathe into your lungs – apart from clean, fresh air – is going to be damaging to them. If you’re going to give up smoking, just give up completely, otherwise you’re just replacing one very expensive addictive poison for another.

It’s not easy, but if you really want to give up, you can do it without spending a fortune on patches,

e-cigs or chewing gum. Lorraine Allan, Plymouth, Devon # I think e-cigs are very addictive. My partner has had his for over three years and he’s awful and cranky if he doesn’t have it or if the battery goes. He can’t leave the house without it and it’s worse than actually smoking cigarettes. Emma Louise Nye, Leeds, West Yorkshire # The people this is causing the most damage to is the cigarette companies and the government. I quit my 40-a-day habit in 2015 and started vaping. I feel fitter and healthier at 42 than I have since I was in my twenties. Gethin Owen, Newport, South Wales # Whatever the side-effects of vaping, e-cigarettes are still nowhere near as dangerous or toxic as cigarettes.

After smoking for nearly 30 years, I was waking up in the morning unable to breath. That stopped the day I quit smoking and started vaping. Eighteen months later, I’m still vaping and haven’t smoked a cigarette since. After years of trying to give up smoking using different methods and always failing, vaping is the only method that’s worked.

The dangers of vaping are nowhere near as bad as with smoking, so I’ll continue vaping and dropping the nicotine content until there’s none at all. Lee Jackson, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs # I’d say vaping is better than smoking with regards to breathing, but it still gave me bad chest pains. Jo-Anne Brooks, Ilford, Redbridge # Nicotine is very addictive. E-cigs don’t deliver as much as traditional cigarettes so people tend to use them more.

The effects of nicotine on the blood vessels, arteries and blood pressure has been known for decades. Caffeine has the same effect. Melanie Brazier, Brighton, East Sussex # It’s very hard to get to the truth with e-cigs as the media just want to shock and scare people. There’s probably a nugget of truth in this somewhere but it’s about nicotine, not about e-cigs. Simon Carr, Blackburn, Lancashire
