SAUNDERS: 2 STEPS TO GLORY

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS claims he is just two fights away from fulfilling all his dreams. Saunders (left) defends his WBO middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr on Saturday, knowing he can fight the winner of Gennady Golovkin’s clash with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, if he is victorious. Saunders, 28, says it would realise a life-long ambition to have that unification fight in America.

“All I’ve got to do is pack Willie away and we’ll all be on schedule for big things,” said Saunders, who is 24-0.

“What motivates me is thinking I can get the winner of Golovkin v Canelo.

“I’ve got the bit between my teeth. I’d love to go to America and unify because that’s always been a dream. I’m two steps away from that.”

Golovkin stopped Monroe in six rounds and Saunders added: “I want to beat him in better style than Golovkin did.”

Saunders v Monroe Jr is live on BoxNation on Saturday, followed by Canelo v Golovkin live on BoxNation Box Office. Visit boxnation.com
