‘Give forces veterans free uni places’
BRAVE Steffan FORCES heroes who served for 12 years or more would get free university places under Lib Dem plans.
Former party leader and ex-Special Boat Service captain Paddy Ashdown said: “The men and women who serve in our Armed Forces deserve the utmost support and respect for their sacrifice, but sadly this Government has let them down.”
Lord Ashdown added: “We have got to start investing properly in those who serve our country.”
His party’s peers plan to force the change in an Armed Forces Bill, which is going through Parliament. The US already has the policy, the GI Bill.
Lib Dems said Royal British Legion figures show 120,000 veterans are unemployed, a rate almost double that of the general population.
