in schools take me back to the 1970s when I was told to get my hair cut be­cause I “looked like a girl”.

If only we’d had the terms avail­able to­day I could have replied: “Why aren’t you ask­ing if I’m iden­ti­fy­ing as non-bi­nary be­cause, for all you know, I may be gen­der-fluid.” Although had I said that, I would not have been able to type the words on this, or any other, page as my hands would have been so se­verely beaten by a Chris­tian Brother they’d have needed am­pu­ta­tion.

A Chris­tian Brother, by the way, dressed in a frock. Ah yes, the good old, non-con­fus­ing days.
