ROYALS WILL ED FOR TOP

-

DAVE EDWARDS insists Reading will be promotion contenders despite their poor start.

The former Wolves midfielder (below) was one of several big summer signings who have taken their time to gel at the Madejski.

But he is adamant no one is worried despite last season’s beaten play-off finalists being a lowly 18th with just eight points.

He said: “After what happened at the end of last year, it’s notoriously hard for the team to go again, especially with a lot of additions in the summer.

“The squad’s probably stronger than last year but it’s about being consistent on the pitch.

“It’s no cause for concern this stage of the season. I look at the quality here and we should be at the top end of that table.”

Liam Kelly converted a 70th-minute penalty to grab a draw for the Royals at Brentford, who had only Josh Clarke’s early goal to show for their 20 shots.
