electricity prices for this winter have jumped by 16% year on year. The rise has been partly driven by the knock-on impact of safety concerns surrounding France’s nuclear power plants.

Jamie Stewart, of pricing agency Icis, said it was too early to know what impact it could have on domestic bills.
