Silva demands Hornets hit back from the 6-0 drubbing and regain sting on their travels

- BY MIKE WALTERS

HISTORY man Marco Silva can set another Watford record today that would surpass Hornets godfather Graham Taylor – after just six games.

Victory at Swansea would be Silva’s third consecutive away win in the top flight, a feat even Taylor (below) could not achieve in his 14 years as Vicarage Road royalty.

And it would make up for the sleepless night the Watford head coach had after presiding over a record of the unwanted variety last weekend.

The 6-0 home drubbing by Manchester City was the Hornets’ heaviest defeat in the penthouse.

Silva, who won at Bournemouth and Southampton, will be relieved if his men manage to get six and the City out of their system at the earliest opportunity.

First of all, it’s a good sign we’ve won our first two away games, and the possibility of a third gives us a new target,” said the Portuguese.

“I’ve only just found out we could set a record and of course it’s a big motivation.

“It’s only three points, but it’s good to know that you can put your name on the story of the club and it’s possible to achieve this.

“I didn’t sleep very well last Saturday – after a game it’s normal, even when we achieve a good result, but of course it’s very difficult to sleep when you concede six goals at home.

“City came here with a strong mentality, even if the score was a bit harsh on us.

“As soon as it was over, I started to prepare for the next game – Swansea are a good team, with the same ambitions as us, and I told the players to learn from it and move on.

“Although we were fourth in the table this time last week, it doesn’t mean we’re one of the four best teams in the country, but at the same time one defeat doesn’t make us one of the four worst. “City scored five against Liverpool, one of the biggest teams in the Premier League, the week before they beat us, and then they scored four goals away from home in the Champions League.

“Those are the facts, but at times we didn’t keep our focus and organisation as we should and two of City’s goals were offside.

“We need to get back to focusing on our way, our philosophy, and prove what we can do.”

Silva’s centre-backs crisis shows little sign of clearing up. He will again be without the injured Younes Kaboul, Sebastian Prodl and Craig Cathcart, while Miguel Britos is suspended.
