VETERAN left-back Frank Clarke was set to make his first Nottingham Forest appearance of the season (a Brian Clough ‘gamble’) as they took on Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg of their European Cup first-round tie. Liverpool were Euro champions but Forest – who had won the first leg 2-0 – kept them at bay thanks to Clark & Co in a pulsating goalless draw. The former Newcastle No.3 retained his place right through to the final where a Trevor Francis goal beat Malmo 1-0.
