PEN ‘PAIN’ WON’T PUT VARDY OFF

- BY JAMES NURSEY

JAMIE VARDY insists he will keep volunteering for penalty duty at Leicester despite a ‘sickening’ miss.

The England striker’s header made it 3-2 against Liverpool to give the Foxes a lifeline.

Vardy then had a spotkick to equalise after being brought down by Simon Mignolet.

But his effort was saved by the Belgian as he opted to blast it down the middle again.

His technique was labelled predictable by Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy.

Vardy admitted it was his turn to feel ill after Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said he felt sick losing at Leicester in the EFL Cup last week.

Vardy said: “Yeah, definitely, I was the one who stepped up and missed. It is something I will have to learn from.

“But I will not shy away from it, I will be straight there wanting to take the next one.

“I was going to change my mind and go the other way. But I always tell myself never to change my mind so more fool me.

“Unfortunately it has cost us. But I will take that on my shoulders.”

Defeat means Leicester have only four points from their first six games despite Vardy scoring five goals already.

The striker added: “We have been playing well but not picking up any points. We will have to get back on the training field and work on things and how we can hurt Bournemouth.”
