Coutinho to rescue but Kop denied in Moscow

- FROM JOHN CROSS Chief Football Writer in Moscow

JURGEN KLOPP suffered a night of Champions League frustration as Liverpool’s Fab Four were held to a draw in Moscow.

Despite unleashing his four quicksilver forwards from the start for the first time, Klopp had to settle for a point against Spartak Moscow. It was a major blow for Liverpool as they dominated Spartak but

could not find a way through. And captain Jordan Henderson said: “It’s disappointing. We controlled the game from start to finish so we should win it comfortably. On another day it could have been three or four. We have to be more ruthless.”

Liverpool boss Klopp’s gamble of using Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino effectively failed to pay off.

Coutinho scored to get them a point but Klopp will know it was two dropped on a disappointing night.

And questions will be asked of keeper Loris Karius, at fault for the Spartak opener scored by Brazilian midfielder Fernando.

Klopp defended his under-fire keeper, saying: “It was a good freekick, over the corner of the wall.”
