Aidan: My cocaine hell
X Factor hopeful on drug addiction past
X FACTOR contestant Aidan Martin spiralled into cocaine addiction before he was convicted of fraud.
The singer, 27, says he fell in with the “wrong crowd” after moving to London aged 18. He was arrested for trying to use a credit card stolen from rugby union legend Lawrence Dallaglio, 45, in 2010. Aidan says: “It was hell. I lost my way. I hung out with the wrong crowd. I was doing drugs, cocaine and weed, doing it to excess. I had no idea how I’d get out.”
The Mirror recently revealed that Aidan was arrested for trying to use Dallaglio’s card at a restaurant in Soho in London’s West End. In 2012, he admitted fraud and was given 80 hours’ community service. His family kicked him out of his home. He said: “I had nowhere to live, no money, nothing.”
Aidan risks his place on The X Factor by speaking out, after one of this year’s favourites, Anthony Russell, was reportedly given the boot when he told producers about his drug use. Both singers will appear on this weekend’s Bootcamp episodes on ITV.
In 2007, Aidan failed to get past Bootcamp, after which he left his native South Shields for London.
