NORTH RUN ON PENNIES

-

I previously wrote about my despair at the Government’s cancellation of railway electrification projects in the north of England, while at the same time throwing their weight and cash behind Crossrail 2 in London.

They have now stumped up £5million for digitally-run points to cut journey times along the 60-mile rail link between Manchester and York.

This is compared to the £30billion that the 30 miles of Crossrail 2 will cost the country.

My question is, who’s got this Manchester to York contract? Hornby? John Varley, Doncaster It certainly makes you wonder when scientists are calling for contact rugby in schools to be banned because of the long-term health risks (Mirror, Sept 26).

Is it that they spent so much of their youth deep in books that they have forgotten how kids grow up? They climb trees, fall off bikes and play rough.

I know there are risks of dementia but you must let kids live a little.

Like other readers, I no longer listen to Chris Evans on Radio 2 but have switched to Smooth Radio where even the adverts are better than his egotistical style. Why does Radio 2 need such inane chat? It’s supposed to be a music station.
