Nat ‘may still get to Russia’

- BY MIKE WALTERS

MARCO SILVA refuses to write off Nathaniel Chalobah’s World Cup dream of playing at Russia 2018. Chalobah’s bid to break into Gareth Southgate’s team suffered a major setback this week when it was revealed he needs surgery on a suspected fractured left kneecap.

The £5million signing from Chelsea is expected to be out for three months.

Hornets manager Silva said: “It’s disappointing news for us – it’s a pity for Watford, but even more so for the boy himself.

“In two months with us, he achieved important things – he played well and the national team coach called him up, which was important to him.

“Now he must be calm and recover well.

“We do not want to put a timescale on his recovery.

“We expect to see him around the New Year, more or less, but you never know what can happen.

“We will see after the surgery and rehabilitation.”
