War veteran post honour

Daily Mirror - - NEWS -

A VICTORIA Cross winner from the First World War has had a postbox dedicated in his honour.

Royal Mail marked the heroism of late Sergeant Alfred Knight at Ypres in Belgium in 1917, because he worked as a Post Office clerk before he enlisted.

Natalie Frow, from Royal Mail, said: “Most men who left postal jobs had no military experience. It makes Sgt Knight truly heroic.”

The plaque is on a box in the street in Birmingham where Alfred lived.
