It’s pasta its sell-by date

-

A FOODBANK was sent a donation of 40-year-old macaroni.

The sealed packet with a 1977 expiry date was in the same lot as some instant mash from 1979.

Micheal Beckett, of Colchester Foodbank, said: “It’s the oldest thing we have ever had.

“We check everything that comes in and make sure it is unopened and in date. The sad thing is we have to get rid of quite a lot of it and it goes in the tip.”

The 1lb packet of International brand macaroni had a 22-and-a-half pence price on it. The Sainsbury’s mash had a 12-and-a-half pence tag.

He added: “We once had a tin of sardines from the 80s but this is by far the oldest thing we have had.”
