Beaten up at theatre for asking women to hush

-

A MUM was attacked by a gang of women after asking them to be quiet at the theatre.

Retired midwife Ellen Burke, 58, was kicked and punched in front of her autistic son.

She took Matthew, 16, to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre to see Dirty Dancing to celebrate his GCSE results but it was spoiled by the group “chatting loudly and ignoring the show”.

Ellen said she politely asked them to lower their voices. An usher also intervened.

She said one of the women threw a pint of beer at her as she left. Ellen, of Liverpool, added: “She turned around and punched me. When I fell to the floor, I could feel more than one set of feet kicking me. They were crazed.”

Theatre director Diane Belding said: “We have provided CCTV to the police and are continuing to help their investigations.”
