Defeat.. but still golden to Eddie

-

BOURNEMOUTH boss Eddie Howe was last at Wembley in 1998.

He was a 20-year-old centreback in a Cherries team beaten 2-1 on a golden goal by Grimsby in the Football League Trophy.

He said: “I remember my one and only game at Wembley quite well. You can’t forget those moments in your career and I had it very early in mine.

“I remember feeling very disappointed afterwards as it’s not very often your goalkeeper scores a spectacular own goal like goalkeeper Jimmy Glass did, which is something we do remind him of regularly.

“To make that long walk out at Wembley, following in the footsteps of so many great players and teams was an unbelievable feeling.

“During the game you don’t think about it but when your career is over you sit back and think that’s one of the standout moments.”
