BBC1, 9pm Such is our love for Sue Perkins that we really don’t mind she’s blagged the most recent “celebrity does travelogue” series. Clever, interesting and always funny, Sue will talk to anyone, making a superb guide.

Almost immediately she reveals her personal reasons for wanting to travel the length of the Ganges in India.

“I know everyone says this on telly, but this really is an emotional journey for me,” she says. “I’ve had a horrible year.”

Her father died recently, and she hopes the walk along the banks of the mystical “and rather pungent” river can “work miracles”.

As she begins her journey she can barely breathe – she’s got altitude sickness as she tries to walk up a mountain but still manages to crack jokes.

Later on she meets holy people who live near the source of the Ganges, before heading to Rishikesh, a town of meditation, detox and spiritual guidance.

Enjoy it, Sue! HAPPY CLAPPY Sue joins in a song
