YOU DUMMY

Football fan who attacked player while carrying child is banned

- BY PAUL BYRNE

A THUG who attacked a footballer while carrying a dummy-sucking toddler by his side has been banned for life.

The Everton fan was seen live on TV racing towards a mass brawl between players then twice slapping the opposition goalie. Fellow supporters blasted the yob. One said: “It was disgusting. Fancy fighting with a baby in your arms.” Everton vowed action “will include a ban from attending future fixtures”.

THE Everton thug who joined in a mass brawl while carrying a toddler by his side was last night branded a disgrace by fellow football fans.

Goodison chiefs banned the supporter for life after he slapped an opposition goalie twice during the pitchside melee between players.

The raging yob was seen by millions on TV running towards the clash with the child, who was sucking a dummy, then lashing out at Anthony Lopes from French club Lyon before scurrying away.

One supporter tweeted: “That fan holding the toddler getting involved in the fight is pure scum.”

Another posted: “Still can’t get my head around that Everton fan, carrying his young child, moving towards the scuffle and punching the Lyon player. Madness.”

George Orr, former editor of fanzine Blue Blood, said: “There’s never a cause to be hitting a player.

“He’s brought shame on the club, his family and himself. It’s not a good way to show himself as a dad.”

INCREDIBLE

And a woman shopkeeper who lives near the ground in Liverpool added: “It was disgusting. I’m glad the club banned him. What sort of example is that to set to a little boy?”

Everton said: “Club officials have reviewed an incident where supporters became involved in a confrontation between players. We have identified one individual whom action will now be taken against.

“This will include a ban from attending future Everton fixtures and the club registering a formal complaint with police.”

Manager Ronald Koeman, 54, added: “I think it is the right decision from the club. It was incredible.”

Merseyside Police are investigating the appalling scenes which came during Thursday’s Europa Cup clash in which Everton lost 2-1.

Blues defender Ashley Williams sparked the brawl when he pushed Lopes over. Players from both sides started pushing and shoving each other by the advertising boards as some fans hurled insults and obscene gestures.

After the match, Lopes played down the incident. The 27-year-old Portuguese said: “It was no big deal, it happened and that was it.”

Everton seem certain to face punishment from UEFA.
