German boss tops Everton wanted list after Koeman sacking

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

EVERTON have made Thomas Tuchel their No.1 target after sacking Ronald Koeman.

The German (left) is favourite to succeed Koeman, who was summoned to their Finch Farm training ground to be fired by chairman Bill Kenwright and main shareholder Farhad Moshiri. The search for a new manager

began immediately, with Tuchel, available after leaving Dortmund, top of Everton’s list.

Contact has already been made with his representatives, but Tuchel will not rush into a decision as Bayern Munich are a potential destination at the end of this season.

Everton Under-23 coach David Unsworth has been asked to take charge for tomorrow’s League Cup trip to Chelsea.

Unsworth, who has presided over a successful development squad, could remain at the helm at least until the international break in a fortnight.

Tuchel, 44, lifted the Cup with Dortmund last season and took them to the Champions League quarter-final. But he left after a row with chief executive Hans- Joachim Watzke over a hasty decision to replay a Champions League tie against Monaco, when a bomb hit the team bus and injured one of his players.

Tuchel is in the running for the Bayern job, which will be available next summer after the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti, who was replaced by Jupp Heynckes until the end of the season.

Ancelotti is himself admired by Everton money-man Moshiri, but the Italian has indicated he wants a break from football.

Other targets include Burnley boss Sean Dyche, Watford’s Marco Silva and Leonardo Jardim of Monaco. Ryan Giggs is keen on the job, along with the vacant role at Leicester.

The Manchester United legend said: “Leicester were champions two seasons ago, Everton are a fantastic club with a fantastic history. For me, these are clubs I’d be interested in.”
