NHS cyber assault ‘avoidable’

-

THE NHS should have stopped a major cyber attack, a report claims today.

WannaCry hit computers at more than one in three English health trusts in May, forcing the cancellation of 20,000 appointments. Sir Amyas Morse, head of the National Audit Office, said: “It could have been prevented by following basic IT security best practice.”

He urged the NHS and Department of Health to “get their act together”.

The NAO said NHS Digital had issued “critical alerts” about WannaCry, but the DoH had “no mechanism” to find if action had been taken.
