Guilty of murder: Thief who killed hero with his own car
A SERIAL burglar has been found guilty of the murder of an ex-Royal Navy officer killed by his own car.
Ryan Gibbons, 29, twice ran over former submariner Mike Samwell, 35, as the victim’s wife Jessica watched.
She held his hand, telling him she loved him as he lay dying from “catastrophic” crush injuries.
Nuclear engineer Mr Samwell had run out his £450,000 house in Chorlton, Manchester, in his underwear as burglars took his £30,000 Audi S3 sports car during the night. At Manchester crown court Gibbons, of Chorlton, pleaded guilty to burglary and aggravated vehicle-taking but denied murder. He faces life in jail. Accomplice Raymond Davies, 21, of Manchester, was found guilty of manslaughter. Both will be sentenced today. The victim’s family said: “Mike was our hero.”
