SURPRISE, SURPRISE, IT’S SYLLA
SHEFFIELD United keeper Jamal Blackman’s gaffe gifted Ian Holloway a dream anniversary present as QPR knocked the Blades off top spot.
Holloway, taking charge of his 300th Rangers match, blunted the Blades, who had gone top of the second tier for the first time in 12 years when they beat Leeds on Friday.
But it was Blackman and defender Cameron Carter-Vickers who marked Halloween with a suitably nightmarish defensive fright in the fourth minute.
Chelsea loanee Blackman collided with the centre-back when attempting to catch a long punt, leaving in-form Rangers winger Idrissa Sylla with an open goal.
Guinean international Sylla (above) tapped in for his fourth goal of the season and third strike in his last four appearances, with Blackman taken off on a stretcher.
His replacement Simon Moore was almost left blushing by Sylla as well when the opportunistic attacker tried his luck with a 35-yard chip – only for the sub to scramble back and save.
The visitors, who haven’t won at Loftus Road in the league since 2004, could have levelled when Jack O’Connell broke free at a corner and Leon Clarke got in behind but both fluffed their lines.
