Hammond must find extra £4bn for the NHS
THE NHS needs an extra £4billion in the Budget just to keep running at current levels, health experts have warned.
And Chancellor Philip Hammond has been urged to provide extra cash to fund any lifting of the public sector pay cap or care will suffer.
The warning in a report by the Health Foundation, King’s Fund and Nuffield Trust comes as Jim Mackey, the outgoing head of NHS Improvement, told health chiefs the NHS was in danger of going “pop”.
At the NHS Providers conference in Birmingham, he said: “I hope extra money comes in this Budget, but at some point it needs to come.”
