BOSS Ron Greenwood gambled on two exciting young wingers and a new centre-forward as England attempted to reach the 1978 World Cup. He called up Peter Barnes, 20, from Manchester City and 22-year-old Steve Coppell from neighbours United, as well as Everton striker Bob Latchford. They all played in a 2-0 Wembley win over Italy, but England lost out on goal difference as the Azzurri qualified for Argentina.
