Burnt Brit rep’s ex faces trial
AN ex-boyfriend suspected of plotting an acid attack on a British travel rep will be tried for attempted murder.
Claudio Gouveia, 34, being held in a jail in Madeira, is accused of ordering the attack on Ellie Chessell in Portugal’s Algarve in May. Some two litres of acid were thrown at Ellie, 29, of Newport, Isle of Wight, causing second and third degree burns to more than 50 per cent of her body.
Police believe Edmundo Fonseca, 44, flung the acid will try to extradite him from Uganda where he is being held.
